*Pahanhannan* is a large-scale public art installation that blends contemporary technology with indigenous architectural culture. Inspired by the "Taluan," an auxiliary facility of traditional Amis houses, the work integrates local fishing and hunting wisdom, providing residents with a practical space for short rests, gear preparation, and shared use during fishing and intertidal harvesting. The roof design is inspired by feather ornaments and white cloth strips worn by Amis youths. Its modular structure utilizes cedar wood for insect control and embedded hanging holes to extend its lifespan and meet diverse needs, presenting an aesthetic that combines cultural symbolism with functionality.
Named "A Place to Adjust One's Breath," the work showcases the fusion of traditional wisdom and modern technology, becoming a model of accessible public art. While promoting the indigenous worldview, we also use cultural venues to facilitate communication and understanding between residents and visitors, hoping to allow ancient wisdom to flow naturally in the modern context and be passed down continuously.
